What is Belmont Dining doing to help our environment and better our community:
Rumba Roast Coffee- Conexion Americas, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the integration of Hispanic families into the community, has teamed up with Belmont Dining and Bongo Java Roasting Company. The partnership's goal is to develop and educate the hispanic community in Nashville, TN by teaching entrepreneurship through the creation of Rumba Roast Coffee. The team has created a small coffee concept that will eventually be utilized by local hispanic teachers to educate the Hispanic community. All of Rumba's coffee is 100% organic and Fair Trade Certified. In other words, not only are we aiding the Hispanic population in Tennessee but also in Latin and South America.
Facebook- Students in today's culture are well connected...So here at Belmont Dining we decided to create a Facebook group called "Live Better BU", in order to connect better with students and get a more accurate feeling for what the Belmont Community is looking for in their on campus dining.
Go Green- "Belmont Goes Green" mugs are being distributed for those individuals who dedicate/pledge to use the free mug for refills of coffee and soda. Although a small step, this encourages the use of reusable cups instead of dumping tons of paper and plastic products into our environment.
Second Harvest Food Bank- Recently, Sodexo sponsored a national canned food drive "Cans Across America". Belmont University collected and donated a total of 544lbs to Second Harvest Food Bank of Nashville, TN.

Organic/Natural Foods- Answering the call of students and faculty, Belmont Dining has decided to shift the Corner Court's focus to more natural and organic offerings. We have added an entire rack full of organic and 100% natural food items that not only are nutritious but also good for the environment. We also added new beverages and organic salads that can be eaten on a daily basis.
Class Involvement- Our General Manager, Kyle Grover, has been heavily involved in the development of two classes here at Belmont University. His main goal while working with these students is to promote and develop ideas that are healthy for the environment while also being logical for business.
Recycling- In a simple effort to help better our Dining Hall we have switched to recycled napkins instead of the white, bleached napkins that are detrimental to our environment.
Biodesiel- We have teamed up with Dr. Josh Johnson to donate our used cooking oil for his biodiesel vehicle. Our goal is to donate 10 gallons per week for his efforts to curb emissions and exhaust.
Organic Night- During the following Spring 2008 semester, the Dining Hall will be showcasing "Organic Nights" on every Tuesday and Thursday evenings for dinner. We will demonstrate healthy, creative and organic food at "Mike's Station" |
