A Call to Action - Voter Registration Concert

This Saturday from 2-4 PM, Student Government Association is sponsoring a concert to encourage students to register to vote. The concert will feature Stephanie Lambring, Brett McLaughlin, Mary Lawren Maples, and Josh Wright. A booth will be set up for students to register to vote, but even you are already registered, come and enjoy some of Belmont's top artists!

The concert will be in the amphitheater by the Bell Tower.

Culture and Arts Convocation will be given.

2008 Bruin Den Day

On April 12th (this Saturday), Student Government Association will be hosting its annual 'Bruin Den Day' service event. This year, Belmont SGA is partnering with Hands on Nashville to create opportunities to plug in students with local community organizations. Breakfast, lunch, and transportation will all be provided. This is an excellent opportunity to serve your community as well as have a great time!

4 credit hours of community service convo will be given!

Free t-shirts to all participants as well!

Cabinet Reorganization Constitutional Amendment
Student Body,

Below is the full text of a proposed amendment to the SGA Constitution. It will be up for a campus-wide vote on April 7-8 on Blackboard:


BELMONT UNIVERSITY
STUDENT GOVERNMENT ASSOCIATION


AN ACT PROPOSING AN AMENDMENT TO THE STUDENT GOVERNMENT ASSOCIATION CONSTITUTION THAT REORGANIZES THE COMPOSITION OF THE EXECUTIVE CABINET


WHEREAS, The Director of Campus Communications is currently responsible for planning Homecoming events, Battle of the Boulevard events, and other campus-wide events; AND,


WHEREAS, The Director of campus Communications is also responsible for serving as the liaison between the Student Government Association of Belmont University and both the university and community; AND,


WHEREAS, This position currently goes well beyond the scope of the duties presently listed in the Constitution; AND,


WHEREAS, There is a need for a Campus Events Coordinator on Executive Cabinet; AND,


WHEREAS, It is unnecessary for the position of Chaplain to serve on the Executive Cabinet, NOW THEREFORE,


BE IT ENACTED BY THE STUDENT GOVERNMENT ASSOCIATION OF BELMONT UNIVERSITY THAT:


Section 1: An amendment to Article II Section IV § A of the Constitution shall be proposed to remove the office of “Chaplain,” and establish the office of “Campus Events Coordinator.”


Section 2: An amendment to Article II Section IV § C of the Constitution shall be proposed to remove §§ 5, “Chaplain.”


Section 3: An amendment to Article II Section IV § C §§ 1 of the Constitution, “Director of Campus Communications,” shall be proposed so that it is re-written as follows:


Director of Campus Communications
Shall be the liaison between the Student Government Association and both the university and community.
Shall serve as the Elections Commissioner.
Shall attain and disseminate public interests.


Section 4: An amendment to Article II Section IV § C shall be proposed to include a new subsection 5 as follows:


Campus Events Coordinator
Shall be responsible for planning and implementing campus events, such as Homecoming, Battle of the Boulevard, Mistletoe Ball, etc., in cooperation with the Campus Events Committee and the Office of Student Affairs.


Section 5: An amendment to Article III Section II § B §§s 7 and 8 shall be proposed to change them as follows:


Chaplain
Must be a student in good standing at Belmont University
Any further requirements students must meet in order to remain voting members of congress are set forth in the By-Laws to this constitution.


Section 6: An amendment to Article III Section II § C shall be proposed to add §§ 3 as follows:


Chaplain
Shall, at the first meeting of each new Congressional term, be appointed by the President from all the filled seats of the Student Congress and confirmed by majority vote of the Congress.


Section 7: An amendment to Article III Section II § D §§ 2 clauses f. and g. shall be proposed to change them as follows:


The Chaplain shall provide a devotional for every meeting of the Student Government Association Congress and spiritual leadership to the Student Government Association.
All representative duties are considered primary duties; every representative of every type shall make himself or herself available to any student regarding SGA business or student life improvement should the need arise.


Section 8: These amendments shall cumulatively be proposed as “Amendment III” to the Student Government Association Constitution and presented to the Student Body of Belmont University for ratification in a special election.
