Tido Janssen

CLASSICAL CELLIST TIDO JANSSEN joined the music faculty at the University of Lethbridge in Alberta, Canada in 2006.  A native of Germany, he studied at Folkwang Hochschule fur Music Essen in Duisburg, received his MM from Boston University and DMA from the University of North Texas.  He is a member of the New Hampshire Music Festival Orchestra and has performed repeatedly in Germany, The Netherlands, Spain, Italy, Austria, Canada and throughout the US.  Together with pianist Stacy Kwak, he was the recipient of the Gerd Moller Foundation Prize for Emerging Musicians.  He has recorded for Deutsch Welle, National Public Radio, and just completed a recording of chamber music by Joseph Rheinberger for Centaur Records.  Prior to his appointment at the University of Lethbridge he was Assistant Professor of Cello at Hardin-Simmons University and principal cellist of the Abilene Philharmonic Orchestra.  He is the founder and former director of the Abilene Summer Music Festival.
