Course Description: The Nashville experience will expose Summer Institute participants to several of Nashville's most prized entertainment outlets. Students who have completed this course will have a better understanding of the scope of Nashville's entertainment industry and will have experienced the culture and vibrancy of Music City USA. (Pass/Fail)
Course Outcomes: At the end of the course, the student will be able to reflect in oral and written fashion about their various experiences visiting many different entertainment outlets and events that Nashville uniquely offers. The students will also be able to meet with a number of entertainment executives to discuss their various positions and how these individuals tie into the bigger industry picture.
Performance Tasks: During this course, the student will visit, engage in and experience many different entertainment experiences unique to Nashville. The student will use these experiences as a starting point to begin the reflection of and the development of a journal that reflects their thoughts regarding these entertainment experiences.
Assessment Tools: The instructor will be able to evaluate the scope of the student’s experience through mentorship, discussion and a reflective evaluation as presented in a detailed journal format at intervals throughout the summer semesters. A final paper will be due at the end of the Summer 2 session that provides constructive input of the course from an evaluation standpoint.

1. Class Participation |
Students will experience a variety of activities and events that will allow to reflect upon the various aspects of the entertainment business. Attendance at all class activities is mandatory, unless absence discussed first with instructor. The class will meet at pre-designated times and travel to the meeting place as a group. |

2. Journal reflections |
Students are responsible for turning in four journal reflections via Blackboard during the course of the semester. Due dates are outlined in class schedule. |

3. Final class evaluation |
Students are responsible to turn in a short three page (maximum) paper, that details their final thoughts about the activities/events around the Nashville Experience. Final paper is due on Monday, 8/10 at 5 pm via Blackboard. |

Course & Classroom Policies
Attendance & Participation: Class attendance follows university policy as stated in the current Undergraduate Bulletin. Class participation is mandatory at each event.
Materials: No class textbooks will be used during the class. Handouts will be distributed as needed.
Grade Evaluation: This course will be graded on a pass/fail basis. A passing grade includes attendance at all class events, journal reflections throughout the summer and completion of the final paper at the end of the Summer 2 session.
