Course Description:

The Showcase Practicum is designed to offer student Producers and Production Staff Coordinators supplemental guidance and experiences in the areas of leadership, management, and production as they go through the process of creating and implementing a full-scale concert production for the CEMB Showcase Series.

Course Outcomes: At the end of this course, the student will be able to:

• Identify common hiring practices.
• Create a mission and vision.
• Manage and work within the boundaries of a budget.
• Identify the resources and information that Belmont and the entertainment industry provide.
• Identify and commit to ethical and professional behavior.
• Understand personal strengths and goals as a leader.

Performance Tasks:  During this course, the student will:

• Hire a production staff.
• Plan and implement a vision.
• Create a marketing plan.
• Work within set deadlines.
• Interact with artist managers/artists with a customer service approach.
• Coordinate with a venue.
• Make decisions and follow through.
• Accept responsibility.
• Delegate responsibilities.
• Communicate efficiently/effectively with their team.

Assessment Tools: During this course, outcomes mastery will be evaluated by:

• Observation and discussion with course instructor.
• Completion of assigned tasks and projects.

Course & Classroom Policies

Attendance & Participation:  Attendance is required at every CEMB Showcase, Producer Council and Showcase Council meeting, and Practicum Workshop.  The student will all meet twice monthly with the course instructor.  Missing one of these events may result in failure of the class unless approved by the instructor.

Materials: Showcase Production Handbook and Checklist Folder

Grade Evaluation Scale:  Pass or Fail based on completion of tasks and attendance
