Course Description: AET 3260. Studio Maintenance and Electronics (3), Prerequisites: AET 3090, permission of instructor and co-requisite of PHY 2250. An analysis of preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of recording studio components including an introduction to basic electronic circuitry as related to the recording studio. (Lab hours required)
Course Outcomes: At the end of this course, the student will be able to:
ú evaluate electronic circuits in theory and practice through the use of test equipment.
Performance Tasks: During this course, the student will:
ú demonstrate basic soldering skills.
ú calibrate electronic test equipment and use to interpret results.
ú build related electronic assemblies.
ú apply a working knowledge of signal flow.
Assessment Tools: During this course, outcome mastery will be evaluated by:

Purpose/Description |
|
1. Homework and Tests |
10% |
Based on reading assignments and class lecture, homework and tests will assess the student’s knowledge base of the topic. |
|
2. Midterm |
30 % |
Based on written assignments, handouts, verbal instruction, and demonstrations in class, exam will measure student’s composite knowledge base of the subject. |
|
3. Mic Pre project |
30 % |
Project relies on the student’s ability to: 1) build required circuit assemblies on schedule 2) assemble and solder to class specification standard 3) provide a working model passing satisfactory electronic testing |
|
4. Final Exam |
30% |
This 3 part exam consists of: 1) Scope Practical Exam -students demonstrate the calibration and use of the oscilloscope by taking AC/DC measurements and decoding the digital logic on a given circuit. 2) Written Final Exam –measures the student’s comprehension of analog implementation of formulas and electronic theory. 3) Written Logic Exam - students decode a logic circuit. |
Course & Classroom Policies:
Attendance & Participation: Class attendance follows university policy as stated in the current Undergraduate Bulletin. Class participation is expected; attendance and absence will be noted.
When the number of absences for any reason exceeds four scheduled class meetings the student is involuntarily dropped from the course with a grade of “WF.” Appeal is to the Provost.
Materials: Currently, there is no required text at this time for this course. If you would like more in-depth information, text's can be recommended by the instructor. Students will need to provide a case for the mic pre project subject to the approval of the instructor.
