Educational Objectives of the Mike Curb College of Entertainment & Music Business: 1) To provide a personalized, career-oriented and practical education that emphasizes leadership, innovation, private enterprise and entrepreneurship.  2) To equip students with the tools to think critically, communicate effectively, accept responsibility, make successful decisions, and prosper in diverse work environments. 3) To emphasize quality classroom instruction within the parameters of ethical Christian principles.

 

Course Description: This senior "capstone experience" will contain an in-depth application of audio engineering knowledge and experience including an investigation of the student's personal experiences, opportunities, ambitions, anticipated career, and life objectives in light of the "world" or "global" influence of the audio engineering industry.  The course comprises a review, research, and preparation towards the development and completion of an applied project. The instructor will guide the student to develop a unique and novel application as applied to his/her interests and the practice of audio engineering.  The Senior Practicum may be taken during the final two semesters, Fall or Spring, before graduation. Pass/Fail only.

 

Course Learning Outcomes: Students will demonstrate:

ú         an appropriate mastery of the knowledge base, techniques, skills, and modern tools of the disciplines embodied within the professional of audio industry

ú         an ability to recognize contemporary trends of the audio industry especially as they apply to changes in revenue streams and corporate repositioning

ú         an ability to apply current knowledge base and adapt to applications of leadership guidelines

ú         engagement in service learning

ú         an ability to successfully plan, conduct, and conclude an audio project

ú         an ability to function effectively within a team context

ú         an ability to identify, analyze and solve audio/technical problems

ú         skills in effective communication with contemporaries, peers, and industry professionals

ú         an ability to understand professional, ethical and social responsibilities within the music industry

ú         a respect for diversity and a knowledge of professional, societal and global issues

ú         a commitment to quality and continuous improvement

ú         a capacity for critical thinking

ú         an appreciation for life through the arts, humanities, religion, social sciences, and natural sciences

 

Performance Criteria: Students will:

ú         plan, execute and conclude a service learning project

ú         employ organizational skills in project planning

ú         exhibit leadership skills in group activities

ú         exercise written and oral communication skills

ú         observe guidelines of social responsibility in the leadership role

ú         communicate knowledge of audio industry infrastructure through class assignments

ú         display expertise in audio engineering and production skills through presentations and written assignments

ú         demonstrate expertise in a chosen subject area within the field of audio engineering

Course Requirements:

 

A.  Attendance:  Missing over 4 daytime classes without instructor’s permission will result in failure of class by student. Otherwise, class attendance is subject to the university’s attendance policy.

B.  Materials:  The 7 Habits of Highly Successful People, Stephen R. Covey, Free Press

C.  Assignments:  Students will be required to write reflection papers on the required text as determined by the instructor, and will also be required to create and execute a service learning project as approved by the instructor. Specific details of the project will be discussed in class.

D.  Testing:   There will be no tests except the final exam.

E.  Basis of grade evaluation: Course is a pass/fail course. In order to pass, students must successfully complete all homework assignments and the required service learning project.
