Educational Objectives of the Mike Curb College of Entertainment & Music: 1) To provide a personalized, career-oriented and practical education that emphasizes leadership, innovation, private enterprise and entrepreneurship. 2) To equip students with the tools to think critically, communicate effectively, accept responsibility, make successful decisions, and prosper in diverse work environments. 3) To emphasize quality classroom instruction within the parameters of ethical Christian principles.

Course Description:  

Ø       MBU 3000. Music Business Internship (1-6). Prerequisites: MBU 2000, MBU 1110, MBU 1380, junior standing, a minimum of 2.8 Belmont cumulative G.P.A. and/or approval of the Dean of Mike Curb College of Entertainment and Music Business. A letter grade of “C” or better is required in all prerequisites. Transfer students must have completed 12 hours of credit in residence at Belmont. Co-requisite: MBU 4000. This is a formal intern education assignment in which the qualifying student participates in an entertainment business organization as an intern for a selected period of time. (May be repeated; however, a maximum of 6 credit hours may be used as Music Business electives.) Only full-time degree-seeking students who have met the prerequisites may register for MBU 3000.   

Ø       AET 3000. Audio Engineering Internship (1-6). Prerequisites: AET 2000, AET 3190, junior standing, a minimum of 2.8 Belmont cumulative G.P.A. and/or approval of the Associate Dean. A letter grade of "C" or better is required in all prerequisites. Transfer students must have completed 12 hours of credit in residence at Belmont. This is a formal intern education assignment in which the qualifying student participates in an entertainment business organization as an intern for a selected period of time. May be repeated. Only full-time degree-seeking AET majors who have met the prerequisites may register for AET 3000. 

Ø       EIS 3000. Entertainment Industry Internship (1-6). Prerequisites: EIS 2000, EIS 1220, EIS 2350, junior standing, a minimum of 2.8 Belmont cumulative GPA and/or approval of the Associate Dean. A letter grade of "C" or better is required in all prerequisites. Transfer students must have completed 12 hours of credit in residence at Belmont. This is a formal intern education assignment in which the qualifying student participates as an intern for a selected period of time. May be repeated. Only full-time degree-seeking EIS majors who have met the prerequisites may register for EIS 3000.

Learning Outcomes:  The student will:

Ø       gain practical work experience under professional supervision and guidance;

Ø       apply music business/audio technology theories and principles to specific situations within their internship experience;

Ø       observe and analyze professional behavior;

Ø       complete a resume that is appropriate for the music industry; and

Ø       complete written reports that assess and evaluate the internship site.

Course Requirements:

 

1.       Attendance:

Intern is required to spend the minimum number of hours for the number of credit hours registered at the internship site. If you registered for:

1 credit hour, you must work 10 hours per week

2 credit hours, you must work 15 hours per week

3 credit hours, you must work 20 hours per week

4 credit hours, you must work 25 hours per week

5 credit hours, you must work 30 hours per week

6 credit hours, you must work 35 hours per week

Site supervisor will be asked to verify hours spent.

3.       Assignments:

    1. Complete & submit CEMB Internship Application to Internship Coordinator prior to internship
    2. Complete & submit CEMB-I Forms 1, 2 & 3 to Internship Coordinator
    3. Complete Weekly Time Reports (Choose six due dates) & submit to Internship Coordinator online
    4. Attend Internship Information Session
    5. Attend Internship Fair/Spring '07 Graduating Seniors submit Job & Salary Survey
    6. Submit professional, interview-ready resume
    7. Submit paper reflecting and analyzing Internship Site
    8. Send thank you letter to supervisor @ Internship Site

 

       Must submit all assignments (must meet rubric satisfaction) to Pass Internship

       Must attend Internship Information Session & Internship Fair to Pass Internship

 

4.       Testing:     

Ø       Mid-term evaluation submitted by the company is in lieu of a mid-term exam.

Ø       Final evaluation submitted by the company and the final company evaluation submitted by the student, are in lieu of final exam.

 

       Must receive a 3 or better from Internship Site Evaluations to Pass Internship

Instructions for completing Weekly Time Reports:

Ø       The Weekly Time Report can be found at forum.belmont.edu/muzzbuzz; click on Advising; then click on Internships; then click on the Weekly Time Report icon.

Ø       You may choose any six days to complete and submit. For example: I choose to submit a Weekly Time Report for Feb. 16; March 2; March 23; March 30; April 13; and April 27. You can choose other dates from the list.

Ø       Obviously the forms cannot be submitted prior to these dates as you won’t know what you will have completed during that week.

Ø       Regarding the form itself, type the date as shown (e.g., 1/31/07);  type the hours as shown (e.g., 4.50); and in the Duties section, type continuously with spaces in between, up to 350 characters.

Ø       Total the number of hours worked for the week and type in box.

Ø       Total the number of hours worked for the semester and type in box.

Ø       In the subject line of the email, type Weekly Time Report.

Ø       The report is to be completed and returned via email to odella@mail.belmont.edu.

The “points” are a great benefit to you, if you will accept it. The purpose for the points and the evaluation is to receive feedback regarding performance in a particular area. If performance is lacking in some way, the evaluation gives the opportunity to improve performance in that area. Striving for a Spirit of Excellence shows a mature and professional attitude.

Ø       You may choose any sample Resume’ as a template, however the Resume’ must be made your own. It must be your personal document, shouting who you are.

Ø       Resume should be printed out on off-white or white resume paper.

Ø       The Resume' is to be completed and turned in to the Internship Coordinator at BMH 447 .
