Educational Objectives of the Mike Curb College of Entertainment & Music: 1) To provide a personalized, career-oriented and practical education that emphasizes leadership, innovation, private enterprise and entrepreneurship. 2) To equip students with the tools to think critically, communicate effectively, accept responsibility, make successful decisions and prosper in diverse work environments. 3) To emphasize quality classroom instruction within the parameters of ethical Christian principles.

 

Course Description: 

Ø      MBU 2000. Music Business Internship Lab (0). Prerequisites: MBU 1110, MBU 1380 and sophomore standing or 12 hours of credit in residence at Belmont for transfer students. A computer/lecture-centered, career-oriented course covering basic business communication skills and music industry administration. Interviewing skills, internship expectations, career-building methodology and networking techniques in the music business are also covered. 

Ø      AET 2000. Audio Engineering Internship Lab (0). Prerequisites: AET 3090 and sophomore standing or 12 hours of credit in residence at Belmont for transfer students. A computer/lecture-centered, career-oriented course covering basic business communication skills. Interviewing skills, internship expectations, career-building methodology and networking techniques are also covered. 

Ø      EIS 2000. Entertainment Industry Internship Lab (0). Prerequisites: EIS 1220 and sophomore standing or 12 hours of credit in residence at Belmont for transfer students. Cross-listed with MBU 2000. A computer/lecture-centered, career-oriented course covering basic business communication skills, interviewing skills, internship expectations, career-building methodology and networking techniques.

 

Learning Outcomes: The student will

 

Ø      Gain insight into the internship and career development process;

Ø      Research the current job opportunities in the music business/audio engineering technology;

Ø      Observe and analyze professional behavior; and

Ø      Complete a resume that is appropriate for the music industry.

 

This course directly correlates with MBU/AET/EIS 3000 and should be taken in conjunction with the first internship.

Course Requirements:

 

1.      Attendance:

As per the current Undergraduate Bulletin, class attendance is very important, as class, lectures and participation are essential to the course. Attendance for each class will be taken. Attendance is 30% of student's grade in MBU/AET/EIS 3000.

3.      Attend Internship Fair/Spring '07 Graduating Seniors exempt

4.      Submit professional, interview-ready resume

5.      Final

 

ü      Must submit all assignments (must meet rubric satisfaction) to Pass Internship Lab

ü      Must attend Internship Information Session & Internship Fair to Pass Internship Lab

 

If you are completing an Internship, your Professional Resume and Thank You letter will be used for credit in the Internship and in the Lab, therefore you only have to turn in one copy of each.

 

 

4.      Testing:  Final only; Monday, May 7, 2007; 2:00 PM

 


5.      Basis of grade evaluation:

Ø      Grading scale as per the current Undergraduate Bulletin.

Ø      Attendance 40%; Assignments 40%; Participation 20%

Ø      Grade from Internship Lab is 50% of MBU/AET/EIS 3000 grade

Ø      Final lab grade is Pass (P)/Fail (F).

Ø      You must maintain a 2.8 overall GPA to intern

Ø      Pass = 69 - 100 Fail = 0 – 68

Instructions for completing Professional Resume:

Ø      Resume’ guides can be found at forum.belmont.edu/muzzbuzz; click on Advising; then Internships; then the Resume’ icon.

Ø      You may choose any sample Resume’ as a template, however the Resume’ must be made your own. It must be your personal document, shouting who you are.

Ø      Resume should be printed out on off-white or white resume paper.

Ø      The Resume' is to be completed and turned in to the Internship Coordinator at BMH 447.
