Course Description:  Required each semester of all full-time or part-time Music Business (CEMB) students. Co-requisite for students enrolled in MBU 3000, Music Business Internship.  Seminars are discussion-based session with high-profile guest speakers currently active in music and entertainment industries. Session content will vary depending upon guest(s) expertise but generally will engage practical, philosophical, and current issues in music and entertainment industries. Attendance requirements follow university policies and are stated in the course syllabus. Pass/Fail. ($40.00 course fee)

 

Course Outcomes: At the end of this course, the student will have attended:

 

·         Industry-specific seminars featuring high-profile guests that have characterized, explained, discussed, and contrasted their experiences and personal understanding of the music and entertainment industries.

·         Student organized and executed shows.

 

Performance Tasks:  During this course, the student will:

 

·         Attend a minimum of three (3) seminars.

·         Attend a minimum of two (2) CEMB produced showcases.

 

Assessment Tools: During this course, outcomes mastery will be evaluated by:

 

·         Verified attendance of the event.

Description / Purpose

1.  Attendance of approved seminars including “The Insider’s View” series or program- specific seminars.

Seminars are discussion-based sessions featuring skilled and often high profile guests that will talk about his/her experiences and personal understanding of the music and entertainment industries.  The purpose of seminar attendance is to reinforce and contrast information presented in the classroom in order to help the student gain insight and understanding of the application of that knowledge as well as the complexities and depth of the music and entertainment industries.

2. Attendance of the CEMB showcases chosen from ASCAP sponsored songwriter’s nights in the Curb Café and/or SLC produced showcases in the Curb Event Center.

Showcases and songwriter’s nights are student-produced events that display student and professional talents in a variety of ways.  The purpose of showcase attendance is to help the student gain insight and understanding of the complexities of live show production and of the talents, skill, and creative insights of fellow students.

 

 

Attendance Policy: Attendance will be taken at all scheduled events via electronic barcode scanner.  Students are required to have his/her ID scanned upon completion of each seminar, showcase, or songwriter’s night show.   Out of respect for guests and for taping purposes, students will not be allowed to enter an Insider’s View lecture past the indicated start time.  Check attendance credit at http://www.curbcollege.info.

ASCAP Writers’ Nights in the Curb Cafe:  All writers’ night shows are in the Curb Café, start at 6:00 PM, and last approximately 60 min.

 

 

CEMB Showcases:  All showcases are in the Curb Event Center, start at 7:00 PM, and last approximately 60 min.
