Education Objectives of the Mike Curb College of Entertainment and Music Business: 1) To provide a personalized, career-oriented and practical education that emphasizes leadership, innovation, private enterprise and entrepreneurship.  2) To equip students with the tools to think critically, communicate effectively, accept responsibility, make successful decisions, and prosper in diverse work environments.  3) To emphasize quality classroom instruction within the parameters of ethical Christian principles.

 

Course Description: Showcase Practicum (0-1).  The Showcase Practicum is designed to offer student Producers and Production Staff Coordinators supplemental guidance and experiences in the areas of leadership, management, and production as they go through the process of creating and implementing a full-scale concert production for the CEMB Showcase Series.

 

Learning Outcomes

Students will demonstrate:

·         An understanding of common hiring practices

·         An ability to create a mission and vision

·         An ability to manage and work within the boundaries of a budget

·         A knowledge of resources and information that Belmont and the entertainment industry  provide

·         A commitment to ethical and professional behavior

·         An understanding of personal strengths and goals as a leader

 

Performance Criteria

Students will:

·         Hire a production staff

·         Plan and implement a vision

·         Create a marketing plan

·         Work within set deadlines

·         Work within budget parameters

·         Interact with artist managers/artists with a customer service approach

·         Coordinate with a venue

·         Make decisions and follow through

·         Accept responsibility

·         Delegate responsibilities

·         Communication efficiently/effectively to their team

Course Requirements:

 

A.       Attendance: Attendance is required at every CEMB Showcase, Producer Council and Showcase Council meetings, and Practicum Workshop.  The student will also meet twice monthly with the course instructor.  Missing one of these events may result in failure of the class unless approved by the instructor.

B.       Materials: Showcase Production Handbook and Checklist Folder

C.       Assignments: Hire/Select Associate Producers and Production Assistants; Vision/purpose profile; Marketing Plan; Budget Report; Checklist Folder Materials; Produce a CEMB Showcase

D.       Testing: A reflection analysis will be required in place of a final exam.

E.        Basis of grade evaluation: This course is a pass/fail course.  In order to pass, students must successfully complete all assignments and attend the required events.  If materials are not submitted by designated deadlines, you will not pass the course.
