Educational Objectives of the Mike Curb College of Entertainment & Music Business: 1) To provide a personalized, career-oriented and practical education that emphasizes leadership, innovation, private enterprise and entrepreneurship.  2) To equip students with the tools to think critically, communicate effectively, accept responsibility, make successful decisions, and prosper in diverse work environments. 3) To emphasize quality classroom instruction within the parameters of ethical Christian principles.

 

Course Description: Music Business Internship Lab (0). Prerequisites: MBU 1110, MBU 1380 and sophomore standing or 12 hours of credit in residence at Belmont for transfer students. Internship lab is a computer/lecture-centered, career-oriented course covering basic business communication skills and music industry administration. Interviewing skills, internship expectations, career-building methodology and networking techniques in the music business are also covered.

Performance Criteria: Students will:

ú         Exercise networking skills through interaction with industry leaders

ú         Exercise interview skills through mock interviews/speed networking

ú         Complete professional quality documents including cover letter, resume, and professional references

ú         Submit/upload professional documents onto Career Connector

ú         Locate available internships and/or jobs through the Career Services database (Career Connector) and networking opportunities

  1. Attendance: Attendance is required at every class.  Missing a class may result in failure of the class unless approved by the instructor.

 

  1. Materials: Job Choices magazine (distributed the first day of class)

 

  1. Assignments: R‚sum‚, Cover Letter, Reference Page, Survey, Creating a Profile in Career Connector

 

  1. Testing: There will be no tests.

 

  1. Basis of grade evaluation: Course is a pass/fail course. In order to pass, students must successfully    complete all homework assignments.  Failed assignments will be returned to the student to be redone once.  If an assignment is not passed the second time you will not pass the class.
