Course description:

An exploration of issues confronting entertainment and music business firms in a competing global environment.

 

Course objective:

To provide students with an overview of the international music industry

 

Performance Criteria:

 

·  At  the end of this course students shall be able to:

·      Explain how US music is marketed abroad

·      Compare the cultural, political and economic systems in the territories covered  in the course.

·      Contrast the US music economy with music economies of foreign markets.

·      Examine the impact of  American culture on the world and how that affects world opinion of the US.

 

Learning Criteria:

 

·  At the end of this course students  shall be able to :

 

·      Understand how  American music differs from then music cultures in other countries around the world

·      Articulate how American culture ( and particularly the music industry) impacts  the rest of the world

·     Identify leading indicators of America’s role in the global music market.

 

Prepared assignments:  8 Impression papers.

 

Testing: There are three  ( 3)  exams and a final.
