Course Description: A study of the major areas of Music Business. Attention is given to practical application as well as the theoretical foundations of the industry. In-depth study of organizations and a general overview of the industry are included.

 

Course Objective: An introduction to the Music Business for students beginning studies in various curriculums within the Mike Curb College of Entertainment and Music Business.

 

Goals: 
The Mike Curb College of Entertainment and Music Business has the following goals: 1) To provide a personalized, career-oriented and practical education that emphasizes leadership, innovation, private enterprise and entrepreneurship. 2) To equip students with the tools to think critically, communicate effectively, accept responsibility, make successful decisions, and prosper in diverse work environments. 3) To emphasize quality classroom instruction within the parameters of ethical Christian principles.

Course Requirements/Materials: All You Need To Know About The Music Business by Donald S. Passman. Other research or course materials as assigned by Instructor.

 

Attendance: Belmont University is committed to the idea that regular class attendance is essential to successful scholastic achievement. When the number of absences for any reason exceeds four times the number of times that the class meets per week, the student is involuntarily dropped from the course with a grade of “WF.”

Testing: There will be three tests during the semester. Refer to the class calendar for the dates. There will be a comprehensive final exam.

 

Basis of Grade Evaluation:

 

97-100 = A+

93-96  = A

90-92  = A-

87-89  = B+

83-86  = B

80-82  = B-

77-79  = C+

73-76  = C

70-72  = C-

67-69  = D+

63-66  = D

60-62  = D-

Below 59 = failing

 

Make Up Exams: In accordance with Music Business policy, there will be no make-up exams given in this course. If you miss an exam and the absence is excused, the final exam will count double. You may not skip an exam and expect to substitute the final exam grade for it.

 

When exams are returned the correct answers will be reviewed. Individual questions will be answered after class.
