Course Description: Prerequisites: MBU 309; and three hours from
MBU 319, MBU 337, MBU340 or permission of instructor. A study of the many roles
of the modern recording engineer. Topics include studio ownership and
management, clients, unions, current tax laws, and the impact of electronic and
acoustic innovations and patents. Research project and lab hours required.
($50.00 course fee)

and Music Business Mission: The Mike Curb College of Entertainment and Music Business seeks to
achieve its vision by implementing a course of study in the creative processes
of Marketing, Management, Product Development and Recording Technology areas
within the music industry.
To provide a
personalized career-oriented and practical educational program in Business
Administration which emphasizes the four themes of: leadership, innovation,
private enterprise, and entrepreneurship.
To equip students
with the ability to (1) communicate effectively, (2) think critically, and (3)
make enlightened judgments about their environment.
To emphasize quality
classroom instruction within the parameters of Christian principles.
Course
Requirements:
Class Attendance: Class attendance policy follows the
guidelines presented in the current Belmont University Catalog (see http://www.belmont.edu/catalog/undergrad2004/index.htm).
Class
participation:
Students are expected to: (1) show a sincere effort of co-operation,
participation, and self application during this course of study, (2) read
assigned and recommended text and handouts, and (3) fully complete ALL class,
lab, homework, and project assignments.
Supplies/Materials: Digital or analog multi-track master tape as
needed. Miscellaneous computer CDs
and/or DVDs as needed. So, You’re An Audio Engineer – Well, Here’s the Other

Assignments: Group
Research Project. The class of 12
students will conduct four psychoacoustic/technical research projects. The class will be divided into groups of
three to four students who will oversee a single topic for each group, while
the remaining students will serve as participants and subjects, as needed for
perceptual listening test for each of the other groups. Projects will be completed with a journal
style report and presentation of each group's findings. The audio portion of
the project must meet the P&E Wing’s delivery standards.
Testing: There will be no midterm exam, the final exam
will be held at 630pm on
Audit Students: As per the current Belmont University
Bulletin (catalog), students who audit are allowed to attend classes as
a "non-participant in a
non-credit, non-degree seeking status." However, audit students are encouraged to
participate in class discussions and labs and to attend and observe recording
sessions in the Center for Music Business studios. Students who audit will not be given a report
topic, recording project, or allowed to assist as second engineer on project
recording sessions. In addition, since
auditing is a non-credit status, participation as an audit will not meet the
minimum qualifications for booking and participating in recording sessions held
in the Center for Music Business Studios.
