Students and faculty of Belmont University are invited to borrow
items in this list under the following conditions:
STUDENTS may borrow any CD by
requesting
it via e-mail; it will then be put on reserve in the library for a
TWO-DAY
loan under normal library lending procedures and conditions.
FACULTY may
borrow
any CD by requesting it from me via email or phone (x5418) and picking
it up in my office in the Honors House in person at an agreed upon
time. We can
discuss
the period of the loan.
I can be reached through byrnej@mail.belmont.edu
NATURE OF THE COLLECTION:
Listed below are the contents of about 1200
musical CD titles. The bulk of these are medieval and Renaissance, with
a handful of later standards. Most represent European composers, but
there
are works in the Arab and Byzantine traditions. The collection's
idiosyncrasies
are my own, as are those of the list below. From time to time I will
append
a list of newly added works, and periodically fold these into the
present
list.
USING THIS LIST:
Searching for a specific composer's work:
Albums
that feature or highlight a single composer are listed by number under
that composer's name below. Requesting Beethoven 13 will get
you
his violin concertos #1 - 3, for example. Works by a composer that are
included in collections are listed beneath these, and are
followed
by an album code (RC for "Renaissance Collections"; RCI for
"Renaissance
Collections: Italian"; OM for "Organ Music"). When contents of a given
collection occupy more than one line of text in the list, I have put
the
album code at the end of the first line, so refer lines
that
do not end with a code to the previous line with a code. The titles of
collections appear first in this list, and composers follow, in
alphabetical
order. Please look these over to familiarize yourself with the system.
Searching for a specific title: By
typing CONTROL + f
you will activate a word search box into which you may type a search
term.
Your computer will take to each place in the list in which that term
appears.
This is also a quick way to get to a specific composer. No more
sophisticated
engine is attached to this list.
Specific album contents: The
best way to ascertain the full contents of an album that is a
collection
of works is to check with CDNOW.com on-line, which provides a contents
listing (and some sound samples) for most albums it sells.
