The broad five-aisled basilica of S. Demetrios was destroyed in 1917 and rebuilt to the same specifications. It is 55 meters long, and perhaps the most complex church along the Aegean coastland. Transepts follow the aisle heights, and Demetrios' grave is beneath the southern one.
