Byzantine Cyprus II Lagoudera, Church of Panagia tou Arakou, 1192
This
is the apse depiction of the Virgin Enthroned before the restoration evident
in the above picture.
The Church of Panagia tou Arakou was decorated in 1192 and probably
reflects the aesthetics of Constan- tinople in the late Comnenian period. Since so little of such decoration survivies in the capital, this
is precious evidence for its style.
