Beginnings of the Ceratopogonid Information Exchange
in the words of John P.T. Boorman.

As to the question of the Early days of the CIE:  The earliest beginnings are shrouded now in the mists of far-distant time.  As I recollect, I discussed the possibility of getting some sort of newsletter out with Dr. Robert "Bob" Jones, Director of the USDA, ARS Laboratory, Colorado when I visited him in 1967 during the tenure of my Kellogg Foundation Fellowship.  At that time he was very busy with Culicoides variipennis and the Bluetongue disease that it vectors.  Bob Jones didn't have the inclination to take it on himself, so upon my return to The Animal Virus Research Institute, Pirbright, Woking, Surrey, UK, I began corresponding around the globe, and thus the CIE was launched.  All of the early issues were done on a spirit duplicating machine; before the days of word-processors of course.  And therein is where the CIE began.
