Course Requirements
Grades will be based on a discussion/grade, four brief papers, a quiz on one book, a 500-word film review, and an oral book review (10 minutes). Each paper will count for 10% of your grade, the journal and discussion grade will be 30%, and the film review, book review and book quiz will each count 10%.
N.B. Students who do not complete ALL requirements will receive a grade of "F" for the course. You MUST earn a cumulative score of 65% for the class in order to receive a grade of "P" for the course.
Special Considerations
All students must meet the requirements of the course as described herein. Late papers will be reduced ten points per day. Students who are unable to attend class on an exam day or on a day when a paper is due must contact me before that class. Family or medical problems constitute the only valid excuses; excuses presented after the absence will NOT be considered valid ones.
In the interest of fairness to all students, there is no provision in this course for additional reading or papers for extra credit or to substitute for requirements.
Accommodation of Disabilities
In compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act, Belmont University will provide reasonable accommodation of all medically documented disabilities. If you have a disability and would like the university to provide reasonable accommodations of the disability during this course, please notify Tammye Tanksley, Director of Counseling & Developmental Support in the Office of the Dean of Students (460-6407) as soon as possible.
Plagiarism
Plagiarism consists of using the words or ideas of others without providing proper source markers (footnotes or endnotes) or in obtaining illicit assistance for the completion of a class assignment. Assistance given by the tutors in the Writing Lab is NOT illicit; you are encouraged to obtain such assistance when you need it. Of course, help obtained from me is not illicit. Students found guilty of plagiarism will be subjected to the disciplinary procedures described in the current edition of the Belmont Guide.
