ANAC 2008

Program InformationDesigning optimum environments – to learn, to teach, to grow – depends primarily on our sense of who we are as institutions. ANAC’s emphasis on achieving the optimum experiences for all involved on campus – students, faculty, staff, administrators – depends upon the intentional intersecting of many parts in a puzzle, fitting each piece together to achieve the optimal picture.

Belmont University Bell TowerThe joining of the many, often traditionally distinct, programs and activities within higher education is what makes ANAC institutions unique. At the 2008 Associated New American Colleges Summer Institute, participants will have an opportunity to explore these intersections and ways to enhance them on our own campuses as we learn and share with others through workshops, roundtable discussions and working groups, plenary presentations, poster sessions and informal time together.

The 2008 ANAC Summer Institute is pleased to have as its plenary speakers:
  • Susan Painter, PhD, Design Psychologist and Urban and University Campus Planner at AC Martin Partners.  Dr. Painter is also a faculty member in the UCLA Architecture, Interior and Environmental Design program where she has taught Human Factors in Design for eleven years.
  • Barbara Walvoord, PhD, Professor Emerita at the University of Notre Dame, Indiana.  Dr. Walvoord’s impact on higher education is vast – in addition to establishing and directing teaching and learning centers at Notre Dame and three other institutions, Dr. Walvoord has consulted and led workshops at more than 300 colleges and universities.  Her research focus includes assessment and effective grading.
  • Dr. Stuart Dorsey, President of University of Redlands.  Dr. Dorsey’s career in higher education includes tenure as a professor of economics, and vice president for academic affairs at University of Evansville. In addition, he has served as chief economist for US Senate and Labor Department agencies, and has authored many publications in the field of economics.  Dr. Dorsey was named ninth president of the University of Redlands in June 2005.
