Information

MISSION To explore the affects of location, space and place on one’s cultural identity. The course will integrate the cultural epicenters, icons, points of special interest and industry in the United States to provide a snapshot of our history and a glimpse into our country’s future. Being a sociology course, the theme of place identity will combine with larger institutional themes of sociology, such as politics, economy, religion, education, family, and media. By understanding our own land, our own ideas, and how they came about, we can better understand what it means when someone proudly proclaims themselves an American.

ABOUT THE TRIP 10 Belmont University students will truly experience the uniqueness of America through a 40 day, 9,359 mile trip around the country, visiting significant places, people, landmarks, and cities. Each day, the class will come together to discuss the uniqueness of each location they visit, consisting of many of America’s well-known cities. The class will share stories of their experiences, sights, conversations and interaction with locals. The sociology class will be especially unique, considering the fact the class will be studying America while they travel the country together on the road in a sleeper bus.

Courses Offered: Sociology and Third Year Writing

Additional Academic Opportunities: PR/Marketing and/or Video Production courses prior to trip
