Purpose

This server is designed for the exclusive use of Belmont University Faculty, Staff and Students, and their invited guests. If you arrived here looking for Belmont University's main web site, click here.

Please contact Michael Davis (460-6845) or Bob Teeple (460-8003), Belmont University Information Systems, at (or e-mail michael.davis@.belmont.edu or bob.teeple@belmont.edu) for technical problems (such as logging in, transferring files, creating an account, changing passwords, etc.)

If you are a student, please be sure to indicate your current class (Freshman, Sophomore, etc), and your projected graduation date. Student accounts and their files are subject to deletion once the student has left the university, either by graduation, transfer, or withdrawal.  Students should keep their own, local, copy of web pages and other files if they plan to transfer them to another server.

Uploading Files to the Server

We have tested two SFTP clients - one for Windows and one for MacOS - and verified that these work with the new campus server. However, if you discover another SFTP client you prefer to use, then that is fine. For Windows, we suggest using FileZilla and for MacOS, we suggest CyberDuck.

Once you have downloaded and installed your SFTP client, you'll need a few bits of information to set it up.

  • The server name is campus.belmont.edu
  • The first time you execute your SFTP client, you might receive a warning about an "unknown host key". You should click accept/allow.
  • The protocol to be used is SFTP over SSH. By selecting this, the port number should change from 21 to 22. Be sure to actually select the SFTP/SSH protocol; simply changing the port number alone will not be sufficient.
  • Do not specify anything for a path; your username/password will control this automatically.

Additional Details

  • Please note that the campus server is part of an .edu Internet domain, and as such should be used in an educational context; you should not operate your own business from a campus account.
  • Also if you have a large amount of files on the campus server, we would appreciate it if you could review them and see if there are files which could be deleted. Space on the new server is large, but not infinite. Students are limited to a total of 10 M in stored material.
  • Finally, please be sure to abide by copyright in the materials you post onto the campus server; if you don't own the copyright to an item (for example: a music MP3 file, a video file, etc.), it should not be housed on a Belmont server such as campus.belmont.edu. Remove such items immediately, if they exist within your account.
